How to Make Working Out Part of Your Routine

By Eric leader-Owner/Personal Trainer

It may be embarrassing to admit, but some of us haven’t had a steady workout routine since our school days in gym class! Sometimes, life just gets too busy...for several years. Maybe you aren’t quite that bad, but you still wouldn’t consider your workouts to be "routine". According to personal trainers in Fairfax, making exercise a part of your daily schedule will keep you motivated and healthy, but most people do not know where to start when they want to include some type of work out in their routine. Below are 5 different ways to add a workout to your daily routine, so you can get back on track to a healthier, happier you.

1. Sign up for 5ks

There are always 5ks happening everywhere and signing up for one is easy! Many organized 5Ks require you to pay a registration fee ranging between $5-$50, depending on the course, the company, and what you get out of it (sometimes a t-shirt or water bottle!). Usually you have to pay for registration in advance, so even if you aren’t physically ready now, once there is money on the line you will be more motivated to participate! There are many different exciting 5Ks to take part in, such as The Bubble Run, The Inflatable 5k, The Color Run and the Tough Mudder 5k. Normally people train for a 5K, but if you are just a beginner, then you can just take your time, walk and enjoy what the 5K has to offer! For many 5Ks, you can even bring your family along and enjoy getting fit together.

2.  Involve Family

Speaking of bringing your family along, creating a workout routine is a great way to keep everyone active. There are many different ways to work out as a family and there is always a way to keep it fun so the kids keep participating daily. First, find an activity you enjoy doing and do it together as a family, or take turns picking an activity so there is always something new to look forward to. You can always just go on a walk or spend the day at the park; a little exercise everyday can go a long way! The best part? Telling family and friends about your plans to stay fit will help keep you accountable, and ensure that you continue your workout routine.

3. Set Goals

One of the most important things you need to do while working out (besides stretching) is to set realistic goals that you can achieve. Not setting a goal can cause you to overwork yourself, even potentially leading to injury. Consider creating little competitions for yourself to achieve so you can have fun and stay engaged while competing to set your desired goal. You can do this by setting a goal to complete a certain number of reps in a set amount of time, like being able to do 20 pushups in 1 minute. If you are having trouble setting your own goals, you can always go to the gym and ask a personal trainer for help.

4. Track your progress

Keeping track of your progress is a great way to show how far you’ve come while working out. You can keep

track of the type of workout you completed, how many reps you did, how long it took, and the day you did it. If you have a workout journal, you can go back and look at your progress and it will make you more motivated to keep working to reach all of your other future goals you may set. Tracking your progress will also help keep you accountable and maintain the forward momentum you will build by incorporating exercise into your daily routine.

5. CBD

Is all of this physical fitness causing some major soreness the day after a workout? Fortunately, there are some excellent solutions for this common ailment! Consider using a topical CBD product, such as

CBD infused coconut oil, to replenish the moisture that your skin needs while also relieving soreness in your muscles. This helps to make you more comfortable post-workout, and could even shorten your recovery time, meaning you can get back to your workout routine sooner!

6. Taking it one day at a time

Treat each day as a

new opportunity. If you feel like you are getting frustrated or just not feeling it, don’t push yourself. Just do as much as you can and wait until tomorrow and start all over again because it is a new day and it will help motivate you once more. Pushing yourself too hard in one day can impact your daily routine and affect you to not want to continue with your workout, so it is important to take it one day at a time. Over time, you will be able to increase your stamina, and see significant progress in your health and overall happiness!
