The importance of blood work

As a personal trainer, I feel as though when approaching a client's program, it's important to assess every angle of the program. The first step, in my opinion, in any clients program should be a blood test. Now why should the first step be a blood test?

To make sure my client is getting optimal results, I'm going to want to make sure that they're not deficient in any way shape or form. Typically I like for them to get a blood test assessing vitamin and mineral deficiencies if they exist, as well as a metabolic panel and hormone panel. For instance, if I'm working with a male client who is looking to gain muscle strength, I'm going to want to make sure that he is sufficient in all vitamins and minerals, testosterone, estrogen, as well as his thyroid in regards to metabolic panel, estrogen, and thyroid.

So why is this important? Let's say for instance a client comes to me and is looking to lose weight. We set them up on a plan, we assess their diet, and commence the program. Now let's say they are following my program to the T, their diet is on point, and they're not missing workouts. There is still a chance that they may not lose the weight and reach the goals that they want to reach. We could train all we want we could diet all we want, but if they are deficient in thyroid or hypothyroidism then they will not see the results they want to see. The same can be said for my male clients. If they are deficient in testosterone, vitamin D, or another vitamin mineral or hormone Etc. then they will not be able to see optimal results.

To reach goals it is very important that the body functioning optimally. There is no way of knowing that the body is running on full octane unless we get a blood test. Common issues on blood tests tends to be cholesterol, vitamin D deficiency, or a hormonal problem. Until we get those issues addressed, the client will not see the optimal results from their program. Not only that, but it is very important not to keep your head in the sand. By getting a blood test you can see if there are any glaring issues that way they can be addressed before they become a major problem.

So as you can see, if you're looking to begin an exercise program, it's very important to get a blood test. You should test your hormonal panel, metabolic panel, and vitamin and mineral panel. Make sure that your body is running on all cylinders, and then you are ready to begin your program. If you have any other questions feel free to reach us at every  body's personal trainer.
